Adoption Process
What You Need to Know Before Adopting a Small Rescue Dog
NOTE: SINCE DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN OUR PRIVATE HOMES IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SIMPLY “COME AND MEET THEM.” PLEASE CHECK OUR UPCOMING EVENTS TAB TO SEE WHEN OUR NEXT MEET AND GREET WILL BE THE FIRST STEP IS TO COMPLETE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION.
Please give us 1 week to review and process the application. Emailing will only delay your application. You should contact your veterinary reference and give them permission to release information about your pets’ health history/records to our rescue representative.
Applications Will Not Be Processed if All the Information Is Not Completed.
Once your application and vet check has been approved, you will be contacted to schedule your home check. An AAP volunteer will contact you to discuss a date and time that is mutually agreeable. We prefer that all members of the household be present for the home check. The volunteer must have access to all rooms of the home including the garage, basement, and any outbuildings. If access to any of these areas is denied, the application will be automatically denied. We DO NOT adopt without a home visit.
Please be aware that the volunteer may also bring one of their own dogs with them to see how any current dogs in the home interact with them.
Once the Application and Home Check Have Been Approved
You will receive a call from an AAP representative for a phone interview to talk about any additional questions and concerns and potentially discuss a dog.
Note: Our rescue dogs are our number one priority; therefore, we do not make exceptions to our policies. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant at any phase in the adoption application process.
ADOPTION GUIDELINES/REQUIREMENTS
We strive to match each dog to the home that will best suit its unique personality and needs. For instance, not all dogs do well with children. The ones that don’t would therefore not be placed in a home with kids. By carefully screening not only the applicants but the dogs as well, we hope to achieve the best possible match so that both the dog and the family will enjoy a happy future together.
The dog you are interested in may not be a good match for your situation. Also understand that many times, we receive multiple applications for each dog. We then place the dog in the home that best matches its personality and preferences. Before applying to adopt, please be sure that you agree to all of the following:
If you do not agree to the above terms, please do not submit
an application. Otherwise, we look forward to hearing from you!
